1900: Vivian Carter Mason was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
1924: Graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Political Science and
Social Work from the University of Chicago.
1925: Married William T. Mason, Sr., in Brooklyn, New York
and moved to Norfolk, Virginia.
1926: Gave birth to her only child William T. Mason, Jr.
1931-42: Departed Norfolk, Virginia for New York City, to educate son and embarked on a career employed as a social worker. Eventually becoming the first Black director of New York 's Administrative Division in the Department of Welfare.
1942: Returned to reside in Norfolk, Virginia.
1945: Founded Norfolk Women Council for Interracial Cooperation. Appointed by the National Council of Negro Women as a delegate to The International Women's Democratic Federation Meeting in Paris, France.
1950: Served on City Democratic Committee. A member of Concern Citizen
1952: Ran for Norfolk City Council.
1953: Elected the 3rd President of the National Council of Negro Women.
1954: Traveled to International Council of Women in Helsinki, Finland.
1957: Traveled as a Member of Inspection Team visiting American Military Installations in Europe Sponsored by Crusade for Freedom.
1958: Traveled to the Middle East with the New Frontiers Tour.
1959: Administrator of the School of the “Shutout Seventeen.”
1961: Established the Norfolk Committee for the improvement of Education (NCIE).
1971: First Black woman appointed to the Norfolk City School Board. Awarded the Virginia Press Women “Newsmaker of the Year.” Presiding Officer of the National Women's Political Caucus Council.
1978: Resigned as Vice-Chairman, Norfolk City School Board. Established the Norfolk branch of the National Urban League.
1982: Died at the Norfolk Community Hospital .
